The fine print

Terms of use

This page is written to be honest and readable. It is not legal advice. A lawyer should review it before Unlurk charges anyone anything.

Unlurk is an early product from a small team. These terms keep things honest in both directions. Using Unlurk means you accept them. How we handle your information is a separate page: read the privacy policy.

What Unlurk is right now

Unlurk is a practice space for people who read everything online and post nothing. You get seven small exercises, one a day, in a private feed we call the gym. That is the whole product today.

We are in an early access period. Features, exercises, emails, and phases described in the app or on this site may change, ship late, ship differently, or never ship at all. We are building in the open and telling you our plans as we go, and plans are what they are.

Who can use it

You must be 16 or older to use Unlurk. If you are younger than that, please do not sign up. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 16 we will delete it.

One account per person. You need a working email address, because the program runs through email and your sign in link arrives there.

Signing up, and the first post

When you sign up you give us your email address and you tick a box that says we may publish a first post for you. That box is unchecked by default and the exact words of the post are shown on the page above it. If you do not tick it, we do not post anything. There is no silent posting anywhere in Unlurk.

We sign you in with a link sent to your email. There is no password to remember and no password for us to lose.

Offers and pricing

This section is the important one, so we are saying it plainly. Anything the app, an email, or this site says about future phases, pricing, price locks, lifetime rates, reserved spots, founding member status, or free access describes our present intent. It is not a contractual promise and it is not a binding offer. We may change any of it.

When you move the slider and tell us what the program would be worth to you, that number is research input. It is not a purchase, not an order, not a subscription, and not a payment authorization. It creates no debt and no obligation on either side. Nothing you do on that screen commits you to pay anything, ever.

We do not collect card or payment details during early access, and we are not currently set up to take payments at all. We will never charge you anything without asking you first, explicitly, and getting your yes. If that ever changes, it changes with clear notice and a real choice, not by default.

Your content, and who owns it

What you write in Unlurk stays yours. You keep ownership of your posts and replies. You give us permission to store your writing and to show it inside Unlurk to other members, without your name attached, so the gym works. That permission is worldwide and royalty free, and it lasts for as long as your writing is on Unlurk.

We may keep and display your posts after your account is gone, with the authorship permanently removed, because replies would break otherwise. The privacy policy explains exactly what deletion does.

You are responsible for what you write. Only post writing that is yours to post and that does not break the law or somebody else's rights.

How to behave in the gym

The gym is small and quiet. Please keep it that way. Do not post:

  • content that is unlawful, hateful, or targets another person
  • harassment, threats, or sexual content involving minors
  • another member's private information, or anything that tries to identify them
  • advertising, spam, links, or contact details
  • attempts to break the product: scraping, automation, hammering our servers, or poking at accounts that are not yours

The gym is private. It is not indexable and not shareable. Do not copy what other members write out of it.

Moderation

Some writing is screened by an automated word filter before it appears. Replies written to another member in certain exercises always go to a person for review before anyone else sees them. Held content is invisible to other members until it is approved.

You can report a post or a reply. We read reports. We may hold, remove, or decline to publish anything, at our discretion, and we may suspend or close an account that abuses the space. When your writing is held or removed you still get credit for the exercise you did.

We are a small team doing this by hand. We are not a crisis service. If you are in danger or thinking about hurting yourself, please contact your local emergency number or a crisis line, because we cannot help fast enough.

Ending your account

You can leave whenever you want. Email us and we will delete your account. You do not have to give a reason.

We can suspend or close your account if you break these terms, if we have to for legal or safety reasons, or if we shut Unlurk down. If we close your account for something other than a breach, we will tell you by email where we reasonably can.

Unlurk is early and it may stop. If we shut down we will give notice by email if we are able to.

No warranties

Unlurk is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted, error free, secure, or that it will produce any particular result for you. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non infringement.

Limited liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits, or lost opportunities, arising from your use of Unlurk.

Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you have actually paid us in the twelve months before the claim. During early access that amount is zero, so our liability is capped at zero. Some places do not allow these limits, and if you live in one of them this section applies to you only as far as that law permits.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of [STATE], United States, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. Any dispute goes to the state or federal courts located in [STATE], and you and we both agree to those courts. If you live somewhere whose law gives you the right to bring a claim locally, this does not take that right away.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The current version always lives at this address, with the date it changed at the bottom. If a change matters to you in a real way, such as anything about payment, we will email you before it takes effect. Using Unlurk after a change means you accept the updated terms.
